EDIT, the latest project by the CAMAL® team, designed for the Californian car maker OSVehicle, is a unique interpretation of tomorrow’s transportation — Italian styled and sustainably produced.
The EDIT project was born when the client, OSVehicle commissioned the design of a “body” for its modular frame. The Italian owned startup, with headquarter in Palo Alto (Silicon Valley), has been working for several years to engineer and build a modular platform for electric motor vehicles called TABBY EVO. This platform — sold in assembly kit, or pre-assembled and simply modular — is a real Open Source Vehicle, from which the company derives its name. CAMAL’s team has understood the needs of the customer, approaching the project from a “Software House” approach, identifying the functional and aesthetic needs of the customers of tomorrow.
The challenge was the realization of a friendly shape, easily transformable according to the needs of the customer that could help the transition towards a different layout of future autonomous driving cars.
The sculpted side body creates a dynamic look to a very simple shape. Reduced overhangs and full-body design provide a sense of safety and modernity to the object intended more as a technological product rather than a classic automobile. Neutral colors and limited gaps between the parts lead the observer to view EDIT as a contemporary object, ready for the future, made of new materials with new modes of construction.

The body is divided into 5 main parts, 4 moulds (front, rear, roof and double symmetrical door), optimizing production and decreasing costs. Another main purpose of this design, requested by the CEO of OSVehicle, Tin Hang Liu, is to be able to have more configurations of the same vehicle both in terms of use, style, and recognizability. With this approach the current realization is optimized through a concept of almost total modularity, where replacing even one of the 4 elements above mentioned can change the appearance of the entire vehicle. With this approach it is possible for customers to aesthetically modify or restyle the product with minimal investment.
The doors opening allow an easy ingress, while the interiors can provide different settings from level 1 to 5 of autonomous driving. In a level 5 version there is a “vis a vis” seating layout with a comfortable table in the central area.
EDIT is not only a vehicle, but a blank sheet of paper where anyone can create, and EDIT his or her own project, as the name suggests. OSVehicle aims to provide their customers with the tools and building blocks to start their own company in the automotive sector, support their development every step of the way. a computer with a basic software (borrowing from computer terminology) and allowing each buyer to make their own software (or better version) of the car.
